Inside mounted
Width (side to side) Measure the width (side to side) of an inside mounted blind in three places; Across the top of the window frame; Across the middle of the window frame and across the bottom of the window frame. Determine the smallest of the three measurements. This is the window width. To determine the finished width of the blind deduct ¼ inch from the window width. This is the finished width of the Blind Length (Top to Bottom) On a Horizontal blind the length measurement is not as critical as the width. Measure the length of the window frame on the left side, the middle, and right side. NO Deductions should be made.” The longest measurement is the finished length. Outside mounted
Measure the width (side to side) of an outside mounted blind so the blind extends exactly to where you want the blind to extend. Example if you have wood work which you want the blind to cover measure from one end of the wood work to the other. This is the finished width of the Blind Length (Top to Bottom) Measure the length of area you want to cover. NO Deductions should be made. This measurement is the finished length. |

How to measure- Vertical Blinds (slat extends top to bottom) Inside mounted Width (side to side) Measure the width (side to side) of an inside mounted veritcal blind across the top of the window frame. This is the window width. To determine the finished width of the blind deduct ¼ inch from the window width. This is the finished width of the Blind. Length (Top to Bottom) On a vertical blind the length measurement is critical. Measure the length of the window frame on the left side, the middle, and right side. The shortest of the measurements is the window length. Deduct 1/4 from the shortest measurement, the window length to get the finished length. This measurement is the finished length. Outside Mounted Measure the width (side to side) of an outside mounted blind so the blind extends exactly to where you want the blind to extend. Example: If you have a sliding glass door extend the blind at least 5 inches from the end of the window opening on each side. Since vertical blinds are not mounted flush against the wall, to insure privacy, a blind most cut off the area which one could see into the home at an angle. 5 inches usually accomplishes this. but each circumstance is different and should be determined by the person measuring and installing the blinds. The width from one end to the other end you want covered is the finished width of the Blind Length (Top to Bottom) Measure the length of area you want to cover. NO Deductions should be made. On a sliding glass door the blind must be mounted three inches above the top of the window to allow for mounting the brackets. If you have a window instead of a glass door the blind should extend at least 3 inches above the window opening and 4 inches below. If you do not have these tolerances and are unsure of what to do, please call. This measurement is the finished length.
